Omdia: XR application near-eye display panel shipments are expected to grow 73.8% year-over-year this year

Recently, research firm Omdia published an article, XR application near-eye display panels in 2022 market growth is expected to reach 73.8%, shipments will reach 139 million pieces in 2028.

According to Omdia’s tracking forecast, shipments of display panels for near-eye display applications are expected to reach 25.3 million in 2022, up 73.8 percent year-over-year, and then are expected to reach 139 million in 2028. There are two main driving factors — first, XR terminal device sales have increased year-over-year, thus driving up panel demand; second, brands tend to adopt two-panel design instead of the original one-panel design to improve the user’s visual experience, thus also driving up the demand for display panels.

Omdia also forecasts that year-over-year revenue growth will peak in 2023, primarily because more brands are expected to use silicon-based OLEDs (OLEDoS) for near-eye displays in that year — and their higher unit prices will be a strong driver of revenue growth. In the long term, however, revenue growth will gradually level off as display panels in all technology categories will show a downward trend in average price.

The new normal of the epidemic, the hardware and content ecology of XR products continue to improve, the attractiveness to consumers is increasing, and future product shipments are expected to continue to grow.
