The new version of the RTX 4090 graphics card reportedly features a modified “12VHPWR” connector with four shorter signal pins, which is designed to disable high power mode when the cable is not fully inserted. The new connector design was also used on a new power supply released by MSI a while back.
At present, NVIDIA has not issued an official statement on this improvement.
NVIDIA RTX 40 series graphics cards were the first to use the 12VHPWR interface power supply, which increased the power supply capacity to 600 W. In the early days of the RTX 40 series of graphics cards, there were reports of power supply connector burnouts on the Internet, which may be partly related to poor contact.
