NVIDIA RTX 40 series graphics cards are not DP 2.0: consumer gaming monitors not supported

The newest RTX 40 series graphics cards from Nvidia still use the DP 1.4a interface instead of DP 2.0.

"The current DisplayPort 1.4 standard is capable of supporting 8K displays at 60Hz refresh rates. Also, consumer gaming monitors will not offer DisplayPort 2.0 support for quite some time."

The DisplayPort 2.0 video delivery standard was released in 2019 after the first product release was planned for late 2020, but it has not been implemented until now. According to the standard’s issuing body, the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA), the main reason for the planned delay was due to the prevalence of the new crown virus, which prevented the association’s engineers and developers from discussing and experimenting.

The time came in 2022 when Intel announced its Razzle graphics cards with a new display engine that is DP 2.0 Ready and supports dual 8k 60 fps HDR output. AMD also announced at a recent conference that the new X670 motherboard will be available with a DP 2.0 interface.
