According to foreign media Igor’s Lab news, Nvidia and its graphics card partners are looking for a solution to the GeForce RTX 4090 16pin power connector problem.
Not long ago, foreign media reported a case of the 16pin connector of the GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card being burned and melted. According to the latest news from Igor’s Lab, Nvidia notified all partners this morning that damaged graphics cards need to be sent directly to headquarters for failure analysis.
Regarding this issue, it is said that the incorrect connection of the 16pin cable can cause a large amount of heat, which can cause the connector to burn or melt. Others believe that the 16pin power connector that comes with the graphics card may be a safety hazard.
The RTX 4090 graphics card uses the 16pin power supply interface as shown in the figure above, and the official 16pin power connector is included, and some new ATX 3.0 power supplies will also come with a 16pin power connector. The theoretical power supply capacity of the latest 16pin power supply interface has reached 600W, which is greatly improved compared to the traditional 8pin interface.
It is expected that NVIDIA will give an official explanation and solution for the damage to the RTX 4090 16pin power supply interface/connector soon.
