NVIDIA released the company’s entry-level GeForce GTX 1630 graphics card a few days ago, retailing for $169. Tested by technical agencies such as Guru3D and TechPowerUP, we found that the new GPU is not only slower than the AMD Radeon RX 6400 RDNA 2-based GPU but also identical in performance to the GTX 1050 Ti, the 2016 GPU released by NVIDIA.

The company was rather silent during the launch of the new GeForce GTX 1630 graphics card. NVIDIA partners such as Inno3D tried to educate potential customers about its new design and restate the PCB and cooling technology from its 2020 predecessor GTX 1650 model. Inno3D was also one of the few companies to release performance score results for the graphics card.

Looking at the performance stats against other graphics cards, it’s clear that NVIDIA officially plans to replace the previous GTX 1050 Ti. Originally released in 2016, the GTX 1050 Ti was based on NVIDIA’s Pascal architecture and had a price point of $139 at launch. The NVIDIA GTX 1630 is comparable to the GTX 1050 Ti through Inno3D results and is a 17% improvement over the non-Ti variant of the GTX 1050. Performance is largely usable when duking it out under newer games, such as Assassin’s Creed and other environments, and is out of reach for more graphically demanding games such as Valhalla, Control, and Cyberpunk 2077.

Of course not exactly the same six years away, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1630 includes an updated media decoder with support for VP8 and H.265 (HVEC) codecs, which is not available in the Pascal series. NVIDIA’s new GTX 1630 offers a TU117-150 GPU utilizing the Turing-based architecture with 512 CUDA cores.

The partners revealed the pricing of the new GPU, even though NVIDIA had tried to dissuade. Computer technology brand EVGA lists the company’s GeForce GTX 1630 SC at $199, and Seven Rainbow announced that its custom cards will retail for $169. The public version of the card will be released at a lower price, nevertheless, it is not known if it will reveal a lower or higher price due to the cost of inflation and the possibility of a recession.
