Nothing phone (1) officially released, priced from 469 euros

Over the past few weeks, Nothing has been building a lot of hype for its first smartphone and we’ve seen a fairly comprehensive leak of parameters, but today is the day all that finally comes to an end with the official announcement of the Nothing phone (1) today.

The phone comes with a recyclable aluminum frame, a 6.55″ 1080×2400 120 Hz OLED touchscreen with 1200 nits peak brightness and 240 Hz touch sampling rate, Gorilla Glass 5 on top and symmetrical bezels on all sides, powered by a Snapdragon 778G+ chipset, and a dual rear camera system of a 50MP, f/1.88 aperture Sony IMX766 1/1.56″ primary sensor with OIS stabilization and a 50MP f/2.2 Samsung JN1 1/2.76″ wide-angle sensor with a 114-degree field of view. On the other side, a 16-megapixel Sony IMX471 selfie camera is mounted in a hole embedded in the display.

The under-screen fingerprint sensor is also one of the basics. nothing phone (1) runs Nothing OS (1) based on Android 12, which promises no pre-installed software and includes three years of Android system updates and four years of security patch support. nothing OS (1) adds a few small features to the native Android system. For example, Nothing’s ear(1) TWS earbuds have quick setup controls, and also settings for Tesla cars, such as allowing owners to turn on lights or air conditioning before entering the car. If you like NFT, the Nothing phone (1) also has a built-in home screen widget that displays your NFT collection.

Nothing phone (1) has a built-in 4500 mAh battery and supports 33W wired charging (full charge in 70 minutes), 15W wireless charging (full charge in 120 minutes), and 5W reverse wireless charging. nothing phone (1) has an IP53 rating and does not come with a charging head, but Nothing is selling a separate 45W model for €35/£35/INR 2499.

The main unique selling point of this device is probably the transparent case on the back, and the “Glyph interface” LEDs, which are placed next to the phone’s function area so they can show you relevant information. For example, the LEDs show a progress indicator when you’re charging, and an indication when charging wirelessly in reverse, and of course the LEDs also serve as flashing lights, which are also synchronized with the built-in ringer.

The base version of the Nothing phone (1) is priced at €469/£399/INR 32,999 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage; the model priced at €499/£449/INR 35,999 comes with 8/256GB and the model priced at €549/£499/INR 38,999 comes with 12/ 256GB storage combination, but this last version will ship later than the other two versions.

Nothing pop-up kiosks will open in London’s Covent Garden for five days, starting at 10am on July 16. There will then be a “limited launch with partner retailers” on July 18, with the first official sales on the Nothing website and partner carriers on July 21.

In addition to the UK, Nothing phones(1) will also be available in Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Macau, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand and the UAE for the first time.
