Nokia launched an artificial intelligence (AI) maturity assessment during the World Algorithm Conference to help operators better leverage autonomy-driven software solutions to reduce network congestion and improve network quality so they can improve the user experience with new products and services.
The tool can be used to assess how operators are competing in different markets, guide them in developing and implementing AI strategies, and provide them with a clearer insight into the current and future use of AI capabilities to improve network performance.
The assessment is based on a framework of 8 dimensions, including AI strategy, autonomous operations, and user experience, covering 67 sub-dimensions. It also provides operators with a view of maturity on each dimension and also allows for comparisons with other operators.
The tool also charts a path for operators through five levels of automation, from the earliest assisted automation to the most advanced zero-touch, where automated, intent-driven AI capabilities can predict network failures and problems and provide network optimization decisions through closed-loop learning.
Through Nokia’s collaboration with operators in their AI transformation process, operators can get a clear picture of which AI solutions can benefit their network environment in the short, medium and long term, respectively. In addition, this is to guide operators from taking a “wait and see” approach, which is likely to be overtaken by competitors and miss out on the benefits of AI.
As AI delivers more and more critical network functions, such as reducing energy consumption at base stations, to getting faster security, to automatically detecting and resolving network problems, the use of AI is critical for all operators,” said Nokia. And the Nokia AI Maturity Assessment provides a necessary framework for enhancing AI readiness and rolling out AI in any network environment.”
