HMD Global announced the new X30 and G60 phones today, but as 5G-enabled phones go, they are overpriced. For budget-conscious buyers, there’s the new Nokia C31 and a new Tablet. The company is also introducing new TWS buds and Bluetooth speakers.
Nokia C31 is quite big with a 6.75-inch display, body dimensions 169.2 x 78 x 8.6 mm and weighs 200 grams. the display is HD+ LCD covered by tempered glass. The Nokia C31 is powered by the Unisoc 9863A1 chipset, a 28nm chip with eight Cortex-A55 cores (1.6GHz) and a PowerVR GE8322 GPU. it runs full Android 12 and promises 2 years of quarterly security patches, though there are no updates. It comes in three memory configurations, 3GB/32GB, 4GB/64GB and 4GB/128GB. storage is expandable via microSD card up to 256GB (dedicated slot).
The phone has a fairly basic camera setup that includes a 13MP main camera, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth camera, plus a 5MP selfie camera on the front. The phone comes with the Android Go camera app developed by Google, plus the GoPro Quick app for quick and easy photo and video editing. The front camera supports face unlock, support for unlocking with a mask, or the ability to use the fingerprint reader on the back.
The phone is powered by a 5050mAh battery and unfortunately, it only supports basic 10W charging, and worse, it uses micro USB for charging. The phone is rated IP52 to withstand dust and drips and comes in charcoal, cyan and mint versions. the C31 is a 4G phone (LTE Cat. 4) with a dual nanoSIM slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack and an FM radio receiver. There is also Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.2. The Nokia C31 starts at €240 for the base 3GB/32GB model and is available worldwide today.
The Nokia T21 is a mild upgrade to the T20. It has a 10.4″ LCD with a resolution of 2,000 x 1,200px (15:9). It supports an active stylus (Wacom WGP and Wacom Active ES 2.0), plus it can be used as a secondary display for a Windows PC. The Tablet is powered by the Unisoc T612 chipset (12nm, 2x Cortex-A75 + 6x Cortex-A55, Mali-G52), runs Android 12, has 4GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage, expandable via microSD card up to 512GB. HMD promises to provide the Tablet with 2 OS updates and three years of monthly security patches are available. The Tablet can be used on the go thanks to optional 4G connectivity, and it also supports voice calling and texting. Interestingly, this Tablet has a hybrid slot, so you can have two nanoSIM cards, or a SIM+microSD card. You can also use it to stream video (it has Netflix HD certification), or make video calls through the 8MP front-facing camera (there’s another 8MP camera on the back). Its aluminum body is pretty tough (there’s a 50% recycled plastic cover over the antenna for better signal reception) and the Tablet itself is rated IP52.
The T21 uses an 8200mAh battery (rated at 800 cycles) and charges up to 18W via USB-C 2.0 (PD 3.0). there’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack (and stereo speakers). Depending on the market, you may get a basic 10W charger and a protective case in the retail package. The Nokia T21 Tablet is available today for €130 for the 4GB/64GB Wi-Fi version.
The Nokia Clarity Earbuds 2 Pro, announced today, are TWS headphones with hybrid active noise cancellation (ANC), Bluetooth 5.2 with multipoint connectivity and fast pairing. these earbuds have 13mm neodymium drivers with IPX4 waterproof protection. On their own they last 7 hours of playback time (9 hours without ANC) and the battery pack brings the total time to 28 hours (36 hours without ANC). The 60mAh battery of the headphones needs to be fully charged in 2 hours, and the 500mAh battery of the charging case is fully charged in about 2 hours (via USB-C). By the way, the case is made of 100% post-consumer recycled material and the packaging is also made of recycled material.
