Nikon today released the new firmware version 4.10 for the full-frame flagship camera Z 9, which improves bird focusing performance and provides an “airplane” option similar to the Z 8. Attached specific update content as follows :
"Birds" and "Airplane" have been added to "AF Subject Detection Options" in the photo shooting and video shooting menus.
According to Nikon officials, the Birds option improves overall bird detection performance. In addition to improving detection and autofocus performance on complex and high-contrast backgrounds such as forests and mountains, this option adds the ability to quickly detect birds in a variety of states, including flying, perching, and even unique-looking birds. Tracking performance for fast-moving birds has also been improved to provide a smooth shooting experience so users don’t miss key moments when photographing birds.
Firmware 4.10 also adds the same “Airplane” option built into the Nikon Z 8, which reliably detects aircraft regardless of size. This option enhances the detection capabilities of dimly shot scenes and scenes with complex backgrounds.
Additionally, a dedicated bird-themed detection option will be added in a Nikon Z 8 firmware update scheduled for release in the first half of 2024. The Z 8 camera already has an airplane option in its initial release. Other feature improvements are also planned.
