The Nikon Z 8 is a full-frame/Nikon FX-format micro-single digital camera that officially takes the advanced features and performance of Nikon’s flagship Z 9 camera and condenses them into a compact, lightweight body while maintaining excellent ruggedness and reliability, the company announced today. The Nikon Z 8 is priced at RMB 27,999 and will be available for purchase on May 25, 2023.
According to the official description, despite being about 30% smaller, the Z 8 has the same powerful performance as the Z 9, and even more creative possibilities for shooting. It also has new features such as HEIF format support, aircraft detection mode, and skin softening. Even with its small body, the Z 8 is capable of continuous recording of long 8K UHD and 4K UHD video.
Nikon Z 8 main features:
- Rugged and compact body design can be used in a -10 ℃ environment.
- Support 12-bit N-RAW, ProRes RAW HQ and 10-bit ProRes 422 HQ and H.265 internal recording.
- 4-axis vertical/horizontal flip display and improved vertical user interface to support vertical shooting.
- The pre-shot function starts buffering when the shutter release button is pressed halfway, making it easier to capture key moments even when 120 frames/second is selected.
- A live viewfinder without a black screen allows a continuous and smooth connection between the viewfinder and the subject at all times, without frame skipping or loss of field of view.
- Detects 9 major types of subjects (photos and videos), enables a recognition of smaller faces in the frame, and adds a dedicated aircraft detection mode.
- Continuous recording of 4K UHD/60p for approximately 125 minutes and 8K UHD/30p for approximately 90 minutes is possible.
- Full-frame 4K UHD / 120p without cropping for dramatic slow-motion effects.
- Supports HEIF format, which preserves rich tonal levels from highlights to shadows, allowing you to capture higher brightness information.
- The skin softening function can make the skin of a person appear more delicate and improve post-processing efficiency.
The MB-N12 battery pack was also released simultaneously and is a battery pack for the Z 8 (priced at RMB 2,799, sold separately) that enhances the convenience of vertical shooting operations while extending battery life by approximately 1.8 times. It can operate in temperatures as low as -10°C and also supports hot-swapping.
