After the Z50 in 2019 and the Z fc in 2020, Nikon is now bringing a third DX-format (i.e. APS-C) mirrorless camera, the Z 30, aimed primarily at video bloggers, streamers and other content creators. Similar to its sister model, the Z 30 features a 20.9 megapixel (23.5 x 15.7 mm) CMOS image sensor + Expeed 6 image processor combined with a standard ISO stop of 100 – 51,200 (expandable to 204,800).

In addition, the Z 30 features hybrid eye/phase detection/contrast autofocus and continuous shooting speeds of up to 11 fps. Jay Vannatter, executive vice president of Nikon, said.

“Interchangeable lens cameras are a huge leap forward for individual creators. We want to provide the best value support for the creator community to help further their creativity.

The Nikon Z 30 is said to carry over the 3-inch variable-angle LCD touchscreen from the Z fc model, which can be rotated to the front for easy viewing when taking selfies. Unfortunately, the camera lacks the electronic viewfinder (EVF) found on earlier mirrorless cameras, so all compositions must also rely on the screen.

In terms of formats, in addition to 12-bit or 14-bit RAW / JPEG formats (which can be stored to UHS-I SD cards), content creators can record video in 4K UHD (3840×2160) @ 30fps, or FHD (1920×1080) @ 120fps.

A treasure trove of optional accessories includes the SmallRig Handle tripod, Nikon ML-L7 Bluetooth remote, Rode VideoMicro microphone and hot shoe windshield, and high-quality bokeh with the right Nikkor Z lens.

And with video sensitivity up to ISO 25600 and tracking autofocus, users can add extra content to their footage with 20 Creative Picture Controls.

Although the Z 30 lacks in-camera image stabilization, an optional Z-mount lens with optical stabilization is available to creators. The Rec light on the front of the camera body illuminates while recording.

The maximum recording time is 125 minutes, and it can be powered via USB-C. For audio, in addition to the integrated stereo microphone, users can also choose an external microphone.

Finally, the 128 x 73.5 x 59.9 mm (5.1 x 2.9 x 2.4 in.), 350 gram (12.4 oz.) Nikon Z 30 will be available in mid-July for $709.95 (approx. 4,758 RMB) bare metal.
