New Windows-side Outlook app sneak peek: support for personal Microsoft accounts

A new version of the Outlook app installer has been sneaked in. After installation, you can sign in and use it with your own personal Microsoft account, and it is also available to users who have not previously participated in the Insider program. In May this year, Microsoft announced a new Outlook for members of the Office Insider program in the Beta channel, but unfortunately, it was limited to some users at the time, and only for business users.

This sneak peek of the installer is different, though, as it is web-based. In terms of look and feel, it’s basically the same as the existing Outlook for Windows but introduces some new features such as message alerts and a new calendar board. It also offers Microsoft Loop components for seamless collaboration across Outlook and Teams. And you can import settings from Classic Outlook.

While the sneak peeks version is currently available for personal Microsoft accounts, you still can’t use it for third-party email accounts. But in an announcement this May, Microsoft said Gabriel Valdez Malpartida, senior product marketing manager for Microsoft’s Outlook team, listed a number of features and capabilities that Microsoft is developing, planning and investigating. Some of these are multi-account, offline and third-party account support for Gmail, Yahoo!
