Just a few days after the release of the new 2024 Golf, Volkswagen showed the new Golf R for the first time in public, the new car will be officially unveiled this summer.
The top-of-the-family Golf was unveiled alongside the already released GTI, GTE and eHybrid models at the Zelmsay Ice Circuit in Austria over the weekend, clad in a commemorative ‘Golf 50’ camouflage livery, as part of the celebration of Volkswagen’s four-wheel drive performance brand. The new Golf R took to the ice as part of the celebration of Volkswagen’s four-wheel drive performance brand.
It is noted that the new car front part, smoked black grille with slim through type of lights and luminous head logo and both sides of the more powerful shape of the LED headlamps group is very recognizable. The R logo in the center and the sharp shape of the bottom surround highlight its unique identity. The familiar lines on the sides of the new car are still present, and the exclusive large blacked-out wheels emphasize its performance.
The new Golf R will feature a new interior designed to rectify some of the problems with the eighth-generation Golf range, with a new infotainment system, the reintroduction of physical buttons and higher quality interior materials.
Power is expected to be retained by the new car with its 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which could see a slight increase in power over the current 316bhp level. This will be the last petrol model of the Golf R, with the performance brand moving to an electric model line-up in 2030.
