The Windows 11 taskbar icons don’t merge is a feature that many users have been waiting for, but Microsoft hasn’t offered it. However, a Windows enthusiast has developed a gadget that will allow you to achieve this feature.
The widget is called Shell Frosting and was developed by Twitter user Albacore. It allows you to adjust the way icons are combined in the taskbar on Windows 11, with three options: always merge and hide tabs; merge when the taskbar is full; and never merge. It also allows you to set different options for multiple monitors, features that were already available in some preview versions of Windows 11 but were not officially enabled by Microsoft.
Shell Frosting’s interface is very simple to set up with just a few clicks, and the results can be seen in the following images:
However, Albacore warned that this gadget is not quite stable yet and may have some problems. If you want to try it out, you can download it from GitHub, but it’s best to use it on a virtual machine or a non-primary computer.
