Peugeot released the new 5008 model, including a mild hybrid version and a pure electric version (the pure electric model is named “Peugeot E-5008”). It is reported that the new Peugeot 5008 and the new Peugeot 3008 will be produced based on the STLA Medium platform, and the new Peugeot E-5008 will be launched overseas this fall.
Thanks to its 2.9-meter wheelbase and vertical rear window design, the E-5008 is able to accommodate a third row of seats. But even so, with all seats upright, there’s only 259 liters of storage space left in the boot, less than even a four-door Mini Cooper. Fold the last row of seats down, however, and storage space increases to 748 liters, which is significantly more than the E-3008’s 520 liters.
In terms of powertrain, battery and battery life, E-5008 offers two battery life versions: a single-motor front-drive version equipped with a 73kWh battery, with a maximum power of 214 horsepower and a driving range of up to 500 kilometers; while users anxious about battery life can choose the one equipped with a 98kWh battery. The long-range version has a maximum power of 231 horsepower and a cruising range of up to 660 kilometers. It’s worth noting that both ranges are slightly down compared to the five-seat E-3008 with the same battery and motor due to the added weight.
The top version of the E-5008 Electric 320 adds a motor to the rear axle, bringing the total power to 320 horsepower. Unfortunately, the extra weight also offsets the advantage in range, which is still the same as the lowest model at 500 kilometers.
All three models have fast charging power of 160 kilowatts, which can replenish 100 kilometers of range in 10 minutes or charge from 20% to 80% in 30 minutes. For home charging, Peugeot offers a standard 11kW charger, with users able to upgrade to a 22kW charger to shorten charging times.
As for the fuel version, the 5008 offers the same 136-horsepower 48-volt mild-hybrid system as the 3008 when it is launched. The hybrid system, which consists of a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine and an electric motor integrated into a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, is said to reduce fuel consumption by 15 percent. Peugeot says that this hybrid system can achieve up to 50% pure electric driving in low-speed urban sections. Buyers who want a longer all-electric range will need to wait for the plug-in hybrid version of the 5008 Hybrid 195 e-DCS7, due in 2025, which will have an all-electric range of up to 79 kilometers.
Interior-wise, the E-5008 looks almost identical to the E-3008 except for the extra seats. Peugeot’s 21-inch panoramic i-Cockpit display is standard, plus ambient lighting, a wireless charger, keyless entry and LED headlights are included. The top-of-the-line GT model doesn’t get any extra power or range, but it does offer features like two-tone bodywork, a black roof, 20-inch wheels, heated and electrically adjustable Alcantara seats, and adaptive cruise control.
Peugeot has not announced the price of the new car, which is expected to go on sale in September this year.
