NEC has developed Face Recognition Technology that instantly recognizes multiple people

According to Kyodo News, NEC Corporation announced yesterday that it has developed a face recognition technology that instantly recognizes multiple people through a camera. It is not necessary to pass through the identification gate one by one as in the past, even if you do not stay and enter, as usual, you can distinguish whether it is a pre-registered person.

According to the report, 1 camera can recognize more than 100 people per minute, and there is no need to deliberately turn your face toward the camera. The company is promoting tests on access control in office buildings, factories, theme parks, etc., and aims for practical application by 2024.

NEC is developing a “doorless biometric system. When a person whose face has not been registered in advance or whose face has not been captured passes through, a display set up above the head and on the ground will give a warning. Even if the face is not visible due to crowding, the technology combined with the ability to track the same person based on movement and clothing characteristics enables recognition when the face is visible, thus enabling instant recognition of many people. The technology helps to ease the crowd and reduce the pressure of admission.

Allied’s report shows that the global facial recognition industry is estimated at $3.83 billion in 2020 and is expected to reach $16.74 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 16.0% from 2021 to 2030. Increasing demand for face detection systems to enhance the basic safety and security of organizations and the emergence of smart signage solutions are driving the growth of the global facial recognition market.
