Mozilla Firefox 115 will be the last browser version to support Windows 7, 8 and 8.1

With the decline of Windows 7 and 8/8.1 operating systems, major software developers have begun to stop supporting content on related platforms. This, combined with the end of Microsoft’s Extended Security Update (ESU) program, resulted in third-party developers having to stop support on older platforms.

At present, Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome have taken the lead in dropping support for older platforms, while Mozilla continues to support Firefox users on Windows 7 and 8/8.1, but it is clear that this cannot last forever. After months of deliberation, Mozilla is finally ready to announce the end-of-support date for its service.

Mozilla released Firefox 113.0.2, which fixes various bugs. It is noticed that Mozilla published a support document on its official website, announcing that Firefox 115 will be the last version of the Firefox browser to support Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 users.

According to reports, customers who are unwilling to upgrade to Windows 10 or 11 can use the Firefox 115 Extended Support Release (ESR) until September 2024, and Mozilla also promises to continue to provide users with 15 months of security updates and provide adequate support. Time for users to upgrade.

Microsoft ended official support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 in January 2023. Unsupported operating systems do not receive any security updates and have known vulnerabilities. Maintaining Firefox for an outdated operating system without official support from Microsoft is costly for Mozilla and dangerous for users.

Of course, for Windows 7 hardcore fans, it may not mean that the end is not over. After all, there are still some people who use Windows XP because they like it, and that’s enough.
