Microsoft’s Xbox Series X has now sold 250,000 units in Japan

It looks like the Xbox brand may finally be making some headway in Japan. Earlier this year, the X Series outsold the PlayStation 5 in Japan in weekly sales not once but twice in May and June, and while this was undoubtedly due in large part to the PS5’s stock shortage, there’s no doubt that the next-gen Xbox is getting a much bigger response from Japanese gamers than its predecessor.

In fact, it took less than a year for the X Series console to cross the 100,000-unit threshold in Japan, while the Xbox One only sold about 114,000 units during its entire lifespan.

The X Series is known to have surpassed the 250,000-unit mark in Japan, less than two years after its release. The figure comes from video game industry analysts and Twitter user Benji-Sales, who follows social indicators and sales – including Xbox Series sales in Japan.

Aaron Greengberg, general manager of Xbox game marketing, reacted to the news by saying, “Thank you to everyone in Japan for choosing Xbox. we appreciate it and look forward to your continued patronage.”

It will be interesting to see if Xbox can maintain its forward momentum in the Japanese market – especially if the ongoing supply shortage that has plagued this generation of consoles so far is improved.
