Microsoft’s Halo: Infinite multiplayer mode is buggy, consuming up to 1GB of traffic per game

The company is currently investigating a problem that has caused Halo: Infinite to download large amounts of data in each game, in some cases even up to 1GB.

The problem was first spotted by Twitter user @NicmeistaR, who only played two games and ended up with more than 1GB of traffic, to which Halo: Infinite’s official Twitter account said it was investigating the problem and that a solution would be included in the August Drop Pod update.

It’s unclear what caused such a massive traffic spike. Some speculate that it is due to the game saving replay footage in real time, however, some other users have observed a massive increase in data within minutes of the game starting.

Halo: Infinite was suddenly launched as a free multiplayer mode game on November 16, 2021. After receiving this news, players around the world flocked to the Steam platform like a tidal wave to download and play the game, eventually causing the total download bandwidth usage on the Steam platform to more than double, reaching a staggering 23.5Tbps.
