Microsoft’s code-hosting platform GitHub is reportedly laying off nearly all of its engineering team in India.
The company has already cut more than 100 positions in the South Asian market, sources close to the situation said.
GitHub informed its employees about the round of layoffs on Tuesday local time.
A GitHub spokesperson said the layoffs were part of a team streamlining effort the company disclosed in February, and that GitHub had said it would cut about 10 percent of its workforce by the end of the quarter ending in March.
The spokesperson said, “As part of the restructuring plan shared in February, the company is making layoffs today as part of a difficult but necessary decision and adjustment designed to protect the health of our business in the short term and give us the ability to invest in our long-term strategy.”
