The Microsoft Edge browser has been used in a number of controversial ways to recommend the use of its Microsoft Edge browser. But a new move by Microsoft has sparked controversy again, forcing users to create Edge shortcuts on their desktops.
Even if users have configured the Edge browser as their default browser and pinned it to the Start menu or taskbar, it will force the addition of an Edge shortcut after it is detected that there is no Edge shortcut on the desktop.
This problem has been reported by many users in the Reddit community abroad. Users have reported that Microsoft Edge is re-creating desktop shortcuts with every update.
A temporary solution to fix the above issue, which requires a registry change, so it is recommended to make a backup before doing so. Open the Registry Editor and navigate to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate”.
Then create a new DWORD (32-bit) value called “CreateDesktopShortcutDefault” and assign it to 0. After restarting the computer, the desktop shortcut should no longer be created.
