According to internal Microsoft emails and documents, the company considered acquiring a number of game developers and publishers before deciding to buy Activision Blizzard for $69 billion (currently about RMB 499.56 billion).
In one of the documents, Xbox Games CEO Phil Spencer and other Xbox leaders laid out a business plan to acquire Sega.
Another document shows that Microsoft acquired Ninja Theory for $117 million (currently about RMB 847 million).
Microsoft Xbox is reported to have acquired five game studios in 2018, including Hellblade: Senna’s Sacrifice developer Ninja Theory, who have also previously developed games such as DMC Ghostbusters and Enslaved: Journey to the West.
The studio was acquired by Microsoft along with Turn 10, Playground Games, Compulsion Games and Undead Labs, although their acquisition amounts were not disclosed.
It’s worth noting that Ninja Theory is currently working on Hellblade 2, which is expected to launch on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC platforms in 2024.
