Microsoft is currently focusing on Windows 11 as the main development, with Windows 10 entering the later stages of technical support as a secondary update. Recent indications are that Microsoft stopped selling Windows 10 licenses through its website by the end of January, while the company released lackluster updates to the operating system’s features last year. Now, Microsoft is further de-prioritizing older versions of Windows 10.
In addition to releasing cumulative update KB5019275 for Windows 10 to fix some existing issues and a new OneDrive storage alert, Microsoft also released a notification reminder:
“After March 2023, Windows 10 Supported Version 20H2 and Windows 10 Supported Version 21H2 will no longer have optional non-Security Preview releases. These releases will only have cumulative monthly security updates (known as “B” or Patch Tuesday releases) ) will continue. Windows 10 version 22H2 will continue to receive security and optional update releases.”
Most versions of Windows 10 version 20H2 are no longer supported, but its support for enterprise, education, and IoT enterprise customers will continue until May 9, 2023. Windows 10 version 21H2, on the other hand, will continue to support Home, Professional, Professional Education, and Workstation Professional SKUs until June 13, 2023, and support for Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise customers until 20246 11th.
These are the two versions of Windows 10 affected by this announcement, which will not receive Microsoft’s optional preview updates starting in March of this year. However, they will still receive cumulative security updates until their end of life.
This means that the 22H2 version is the only fully supported version of Windows 10 going forward and will continue to receive optional preview updates. However, the full version of the Microsoft Windows 10 system will also stop support on October 14, 2025.
