Microsoft urges users to upgrade to Windows 11 22H2, Win10 21H1 will stop supporting

Microsoft released the Patch Tuesday security update for Windows 11, Windows 10, and Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 for November 2022.

Along with the Windows 10 “Patch Tuesday” release, Microsoft also issued a reminder that Windows 10 version 21H1 (Windows 10, May 2021 update) will soon reach EOS (End of Service).

"Microsoft reminds: "It's important to note that all Windows 10 version 21H1 will stop being supported on December 13, 2022. after December 13, 2022, these devices will not receive monthly security and quality updates. Subsequent updates include protection against the latest security threats. To continue receiving security and quality updates, we recommend updating to the latest version of Windows."

Mabel Gomes, senior communications program manager at Microsoft, reminded users of this in a post on the Microsoft Technical Community forums today. While Windows 10 21H1 devices will automatically update to the latest supported version of Windows (unless they are somehow blocked by the user), Microsoft also reminds people that Windows 11 is supported for upgrades if they are eligible devices. Microsoft makes several references to the recent Windows 11 22H2 feature update throughout the post, and the company seems to want more Windows 10 users to get on the Windows 11 train.

"We automatically update devices nearing the end of their service period to the latest version of Windows 10, but you can also choose to upgrade eligible devices to Windows 11.

[......] Windows 11, version 22H2 -- also known as Windows 11 2022 Update -- is available on eligible Windows devices."

There’s a reason why Microsoft keeps reminding users to upgrade to Windows 11. The latest data shows that only 15 percent of users have upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11. The strict system requirements of Windows 11 have discouraged many users. This will be a big challenge for enterprise devices, and even after a full year, only about half of the systems will be available with Windows 11.
