According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun today, Microsoft has signed an agreement with the Japanese government and provide ChatGPT technology to the latter.
Specifically, Microsoft will provide ChatGPT’s latest language model, GPT-4, and generative AI technology developed by Meta. In order to handle confidential information, Microsoft recently introduced high processing power equipment for generative AI at its data centers in Tokyo and Osaka.
The system, which will be trialed by new digital agencies in Japan starting this fall, offers the following capabilities:
Document analysis and processing
Preparation of meeting minutes
Providing draft responses to parliamentary inquiries
Analyzing data related to government statisticsIn addition, Microsoft is currently continuing to improve the system’s Japanese language accuracy and encourage Japanese companies to use generative AI services. It is worth mentioning that this is also the first overseas deployment of Microsoft’s technology outside of Europe.
It was previously reported that a number of enterprises and institutions in Japan are currently improving the input of generative AI. July 24, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced that it would introduce a new cutting-edge supercomputer through its attached research institution to support the development of the domestic generative AI industry.
SoftBank Group CEO Masayoshi Son announced at a shareholders’ meeting on June 21 that he would develop a Japanese version of ChatGPT, adding that “if we fail to embrace AI, we will lose the future”.
Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike also announced on June 13 that all government departments in Tokyo will introduce generative AI, represented by ChatGPT, and that the program will be fully implemented from August.
