Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 is one of the most recent additions to the Microsoft product line-up, coming with appealing upgrades. This laptop became official in the Microsoft event that took place a few hours ago, where the company rolled out some new products. The new Surface Laptop was the first release during the event, and it will succeed the Surface Laptop Go 2 that became official a few months ago.

The Surface Laptop Go 2 is not in the price range of this new Microsoft laptop but is the company’s last release. For closer comparison, to get a clear picture of the upgrade with the new laptop 5 we will take a look at the Surface Laptop 4. The previous generation (Surface Laptop 4) uses the 11th generation Intel Core processor and comes in two sizes, being 13.5-inches and 15-inches.
Moving over to the new and more current generation the Surface Laptop 5 the company steps up performance by bringing a better processor on board. Improving on performance, the new Surface Laptop 5 uses the 12th generation Intel Evo Core (i5 or i7) processor. The graphics card on this laptop is the Intel Iris Xe, and available screen sizes are 13.5-inches and 15-inches, both of which are touchscreen with a Gorilla Glass finish just like their predecessor.
The new laptops from Microsoft have a PixelSense Display to produce vivid sRGB colour profiles. Memory capacity on the Surface Laptop 5 comes in three options 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM. Similarly, the storage capacity also comes in three options 256GB, 512GBGB, and 1TB of removable SSDs.
When it comes to battery capacity, Microsoft did well to offer up to 17 hours of usage on their new Surface Laptops at typical usage. For connectivity features the new laptops come with the following ports a USB-C/Thunderbolt 4, a USB-A 3.1, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a Surface connect port. The laptops also support Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 for wireless connections. There is also a 720p HD front-facing camera which doubles as a Windows Hello face recognition camera.
Since it uses a touchscreen display, there is support for the Surface Pen to draw, write, and expand productivity. The laptops run Windows 11 Home, with support for receiving future OTA upgrades to the system software. Audio supply relies on the Omnisonic Speakers, which support Dolby Atmos and spatial audio to produce clear sounds.
Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 price and availability
Both versions of this laptop will be available for purchase globally and are currently on pre-order. Users have the option to configure the laptop to suit their needs and preferences in looks and performance. Available colour options for the 13.5-inch Surface 5 Laptop are Platinum, Sage, Black, and Sandstone, only the Platinum comes in an Alcantara build. For the 15-inch Surface 5 Laptop, the available colours are only Platinum and Black, both of which have a metallic build. The starting price of this laptop is $999 for the 13.5-inch model and $1,299 for the 15-inch model.
