According to Windows Central, Microsoft plans to release the Surface Laptop “3” at the Surface event this fall, which is a laptop for the affordable market. It is reported that this new device will be equipped with 12th generation Intel processors, provide more memory and storage space, but will also increase the price accordingly, while the design and size will remain the same.

The Surface Laptop “3” predecessor, the Surface Laptop Go 2, sparked controversy because its minimum configuration had only 4GB of RAM, which is far from enough to run Windows 11 and modern Internet applications. The new Surface Laptop “3” will cancel this configuration, and the minimum configuration will also be equipped with a 12th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory and a 256GB solid-state drive (the Surface Laptop Go 2 has a minimum configuration of only 128GB solid-state drive). However, this also means that the entry-level price will no longer be US$599, but will be between US$699 to US$749 and the current 8GB versions are the same.

Upgrading from 11th to 12th Gen Intel processors will bring better battery life to the Surface Laptop “3” and some AI-based features like Voice Clarity and Voice Focus, which are currently only available on computers equipped with a Neural Network Processing Unit or NPU.

Other than the processor, memory, and storage space, everything else will remain the same, with no new ports, display improvements, or keyboard/trackpad changes. That means there’s also no backlit keyboard, which is a big complaint from Surface Laptop Go users.
