Since the introduction of Windows 11 last year, Microsoft has been eager to push users to upgrade, citing “positive” feedback. Back in May this year, the company announced that Windows 11 was ready for widespread deployment. Microsoft has also been persuading Windows 10 21H1 users to upgrade to Windows 11 for versions that are coming out of service, while for those using Windows 8.1, Microsoft is even urging users to upgrade to a new computer to enjoy all the benefits of Windows 11.
A few days ago, the company has started offering Windows 11 update recommendations for the first time to Windows 10 22H2 users in the Windows Out-of-the-Box Experience (OOBE) interface, the settings screen after the first boot or major update.
The support documentation for the new OOBE update (KB5020683) states.
An out-of-band update was released on November 30, 2022 to improve the out-of-box experience (OOBE) for Windows 10, Release 2004, 20H2, 21H1, 21H2, and 22H2. It provides the option to upgrade to Windows 11 for eligible devices as part of the OOBE process. This update will only be available after the OOBE update is installed.
This update is available for the following versions of the operating system.
Windows 10, version 2004 (Home and Professional editions only)
Windows 10, version 20H2 (Home and Professional editions only)
Windows 10, version 21H1 (Home and Professional editions only)
