Microsoft Releases HVCI Memory Integrity Compatibility Check Tool for Windows 11/10

Microsoft has launched a memory integrity (HVCI) compatibility scanning tool – hvciscan.exe, suitable for Windows 11, Windows 10 and Windows Server systems, only 64-bit version, but Supports x86 and Arm architectures.

Memory Integrity is a feature of virtual-based security (VBS) that essentially runs Kernel Mode Code Integrity (KMCI) in an isolated virtualized Windows Hypervisor portion of memory, thus protecting the kernel from malicious code.

Due to this requirement, AMD Ryzen 1000 (Zen1), Intel 7th Generation and earlier chips are mostly unable to upgrade Windows 11, only some special 7th Generation Core processors are available.

According to reports, the reason why Microsoft set this hard requirement is that the new Intel and AMD processors have special hardware-based hypervisor acceleration for more efficient code integrity processing.

This feature is commonly known as Mode-Based Execution Control (MBEC) in Intel processors and Guest Mode Execute Trap (GMET) in AMD processors. But even then, VBS still incurs a performance penalty.

As shown in the figure below, you can run hvciscan.exe through the command window or PowerShell, and then you can view the system compatibility results:
