Microsoft released a new version of Windows 11 free virtual machine (2304)

Microsoft has updated the official Windows 11 virtual machine (Windows 11 Development Environment or WDE), and users can download them for free evaluation. Microsoft has upgraded its virtual machines to version 2304 and set an expiration date of July 18, 2023.

There are four variants of the Windows development environment: VMWare, Hyper-V Gen2, Parallels, and VirtualBox. These virtual machines are pre-built and do not require any additional setup. After turning on the virtual machine, users can access Windows 11 Enterprise SKU, Visual Studio 2022 Community Edition, Windows Subsystem for Linux 2, Ubuntu, and Developer Mode. All of these developer tools are available out of the box with no additional installation required.

The specific content includes:

Windows 11 Enterprise Build 22621.1555 (Moment 2 update)

Visual Studio 2022 Community Edition, enabling UWP, .NET Desktop, Azure and Windows App SDK for C# workloads

Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 with Ubuntu installed

 Install Windows Terminal

 Enable developer mode

Microsoft’s virtual machine is free during the evaluation period. After July 18, 2023, the operating system will prompt the user to enter a valid enterprise license key for continued use. The desktop background will go black and the operating system will shut down every hour.
