Microsoft previews a brief overview of the Windows 11 22H2 Moment 2 update

Microsoft recently released Windows 11 22H2 Moment 1, a major update that brings a number of improvements to the core Windows 11 experience, but apparently, the company is already working on the next update to the operating system. Codenamed Moment 2, this update is expected to go live in early 2023, after the 2022 update and the end of the rollout period for Moment 1.

Earlier today, on the 8th Anniversary Webcast on the Windows Insider Program YouTube channel, the company was spotted running what appears to be an internal Windows 11 22H2 Moment 2 preview, build number 23003. This is a pre-recorded demo video of the touch-optimized tablet taskbar, with Microsoft explaining how the taskbar can go from its normal 48-pixel high state to a higher state for a touch-based user experience.

More specifically, Microsoft shows what appears to be a version of Windows 11 build 23003, which is believed to be an earlier version of the Moment 2 update. The company has yet to discuss anything other than a taskbar optimized for tablets, so the lineup of features that will be part of Moment 2 still seems deliberately cryptic.

And today is the second time Microsoft has mentioned an update to Moment 2. The previous one happened in early September. The internal build number at the time was 22940, which means that the company has had a number of development releases since then.

As far as the Moment 1 update is concerned, this new version brings a number of improvements, including suggested actions, taskbar overflow and instant access to the task manager thanks to the app being added to the taskbar’s context menu, new sharing improvements, and a redesigned Photos app. In addition, Moment 1 brings the File Explorer tab to all users.
