Microsoft today released the C# Dev Kit for Visual Studio Code to improve the C# developer experience on Win10, Win11, macOS and Linux distributions.
The C# Dev Kit improves the efficiency of developers developing products in the C# language using VS Code,” said Tim Heuer of Microsoft. The kit is compatible with C# extensions and is powered by a fully open-source Language Server Protocol (LSP) host, creating a high-performance, scalable and flexible tool environment that makes it easy to integrate new experiences into C# for VS Code.
The C# Dev Kit consists of three parts, is as follows:
- C# extensions: provide basic language service support and subsequent maintenance independent of the project.
- C# Dev Kit extension: created based on Visual Studio, provides solution management, templates, testing and debugging.
- IntelliCode for C# Dev Kit extension (optional): introduces AI-related development experience in the editor.
