Microsoft is the most popular brand for scammers, accounting for 25% of the total

According to the latest report released by the market research organization CyberShield, among the phishing incidents that occurred in 2022, Microsoft accounted for the highest proportion of the brands impersonated by scammers, reaching 25%. Last year, Microsoft accounted for 25%. 19%, becoming the scammers’ “favorite impersonation” brand for 2 consecutive years.

The report pointed out that the reason why Microsoft is “popular” with scammers is mainly because during the COVID-19 epidemic, more and more employees are adopting remote working methods and using online collaborative work with high frequency.

Many employees use Microsoft products and services such as Office 365, Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive for their online communication and work requirements. This has also become a prime target for phishing attacks, often to trick users into resetting credentials, updating software, or accessing files.

The top five brands “popular” by scammers are Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, Facebook, and Outlook.
