Microsoft introduces sign language view in Microsoft Teams for hearing-impaired users

Microsoft has announced the introduction of Sign Language View in Microsoft Teams. The feature is mainly in Microsoft Teams video conferencing, allowing people who are deaf or hard of hearing to communicate with others through sign language.

Microsoft announced in a technical community blog post that Sign Language View is now live in the Teams public preview and is expected to go live in the next few weeks.

With Sign Language View, attendees can place video feeds from two meeting participants side-by-side. This way, during a meeting, a deaf or hearing impaired person can show the normal expression of another person in one video and understand the content of the meeting through sign language in the other video.

Microsoft says the following are the main highlights of Sign Language View.

Ability to view the original author and the sign language translator in parallel

Ensuring the right video shape and size for clearer sign language display

Allowing participants to see up to two additional signers in each session

Reduces repetitive meeting setup tasks such as fixing interpreters and turning on captions at the beginning of each meeting
