Microsoft Injects Full-Sized Ads in Google Chrome, Hopes Users Stay in Edge

As the pre-installed browser in Windows 10 and 11 systems, Microsoft Edge is also the first choice for many users to download Chrome or other browsers. But this made Microsoft so unhappy that it tried every means to keep users in Edge.

Recently, some users found that when installing the Chrome browser using the Edge Canary version, the browser will display two ads: the first ad (a small ad) will pop up when the Chrome website loads and the second ad is a huge one. The full-size banner will appear when the download starts.

Microsoft also played a play on words to throw shade at Chrome. The banner says that Edge uses the same technology as Chrome and has “the extra trust of Microsoft”.

To be fair, Microsoft isn’t the only company to take this controversial approach in order to increase the number of users. Google also has banners promoting Chrome, but they only appear on the company’s own site and aren’t injected with ads on other browsers’ sites.

It is worth noting that we were unable to see this banner in the latest stable version of Edge, so it may be that Microsoft is testing it on a small scale in a beta version or only in specific regions, but this behavior still makes many people uncomfortable.
