Microsoft has confirmed another issue in the recently released Windows 11 2022 update. Ned Pyle, lead program manager for the Windows Server Engineering Group, posted an article on the Technical Community Forum warning users of performance degradation when copying large files from remote computers to systems running the latest version of Windows 11.
According to Ned, users of the Windows 11 2022 update may experience a 40 percent reduction in throughput through SMB when copying large files weighing several gigabytes or more. The bug does not affect the initial version of Windows 11, so users who stick with previous versions will not experience problems when copying files from remote computers.
Interestingly, the bug is not exclusive to SMB, which means users may notice a performance drop even when copying local files. While Microsoft is busy investigating the issue and figuring out a fix, affected customers can use Robocopy or xcopy with the /J parameter to recover lost performance, so expect to hear from Microsoft about this issue soon.
Microsoft recently acknowledged another issue that is exclusive to the latest Windows 11 release. The company said that users with specific printer drivers may lose some features such as color, duplex printing, paper size settings and more. Affected devices will not receive updates of a mitigating nature until Microsoft has a permanent fix in place.
