Microsoft has updated the official Windows 11 Health Dashboard documentation and detailed the newly discovered issues in the latest Windows 11 22H2 update. Microsoft says that Windows 11 2022 update users may experience application freezing issues when changing the IME (Input Method Editor) input mode.
Windows IME or Input Method Editor is a built-in tool that allows users to enter text in languages that are difficult to represent on a standard QWERTY keyboard. Chinese, Japanese, Korean and other East Asian languages have a high number of characters and require users to use key combinations that are processed and interpreted by the IME. According to Microsoft findings, turning on, off, or changing input modes can cause applications to become unresponsive on Windows 11 2022 update.
This issue does not affect customers using Windows 10 and the initial version of Windows 11. Also, users who use only English or other languages with Latin or Cyrillic alphabets will not experience the issue. Users who rely on Windows IME can mitigate this issue by installing the newly released KB5020044 update patch. This adds some “Moment 2” features to Windows 11 and fixes other non-security issues such as those related to games on Windows 11 22H2.
If users don’t want to install the preview update, Microsoft says the issue can also be fixed by changing the input mode via the IME mode icon in the taskbar. The freezing bug only occurs in applications when keyboard shortcuts are used to manage IME.
