Microsoft has revealed details of a known issue affecting the latest Windows versions. Microsoft says that users running Windows 10 and Windows 11 (versions between 20H2 and 22H2) may experience problems opening the Start menu, Windows Search, and various UWP applications. The first reports of this situation surfaced about a week ago, and now Microsoft has confirmed the issue.
The problem doesn’t appear to be related to Windows updates, though. Microsoft says the culprit is corrupt registry entries or data that affects applications that use Microsoft Office APIs, such as Barco’s ClickShare.
Microsoft is investigating the situation and promises to release a fix in an upcoming update. In the meantime, users can mitigate the error by uninstalling applications that integrate with Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, or Microsoft Calendar. Microsoft also recommends running multiple scripts as described in the official troubleshooting guide or contacting the application developer for advice.
