Microsoft began testing two new upgrades to the Win11 taskbar, the icon overflow UI will see a major change

Microsoft Windows 11 has had many controversial and radical changes since its launch last year, including a new Start menu, taskbar and more, according to Windows Latest.

Windows 11’s new taskbar was written from scratch and differs greatly from Windows 10’s taskbar, such as not having a full right-click menu. While users can still right-click on the taskbar, they can only make changes to the taskbar in Settings, and dragging the position is not supported.

Microsoft has responded to user feedback and has restored features such as file dragging in the latest update. According to information found by Windows Latest, in the new preview version, Microsoft is testing two new upgrades to the taskbar.

One of the new upgrades is reportedly a UI change to the taskbar search box that can display a different style of search box on different devices.

Another new update is a major exploration of the taskbar UI. As you can see from the image below, when users have too many apps open at the same time, or when the device resolution is very low, currently only additional individual apps can be displayed, and the new taskbar app list overflow will appear above, making it easier to select which apps are running.

The new taskbar overflow UI reduces clutter and provides a modern pop-up experience. It’s unclear when this new feature will be pushed out to users.

Microsoft will release a Windows 11 update codenamed “Sun Valley 2” later this October. In addition to this major feature update, Windows 11 will also be changed through monthly cumulative updates and additional improvements to the taskbar, which the media says may be released this fall.
