Microsoft Developer Blog released an update, announcing that the Visual Studio Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for the Mac platform will start the “retirement” process today. Visual Studio for Mac 17.6 will continue to be supported for 12 months, ending August 31, 2024.

Microsoft stated that it will no longer develop new features for Visual Studio for Mac, and will not add new frameworks, runtimes, or language support. In the next year, it will focus on security issues and release services and security updates.
Microsoft said it will continue to provide alternative solutions for developers on the Mac platform, and will guide developers to use the newly released C# Dev Kit for VS Code and other extensions.
Part of the blog post is as follows: “We will redistribute our resources and development focus, integrate superior resources, focus on enhancing Visual Studio and VS Code, and optimize them for cross-platform development.”
Although Microsoft will stop Visual Studio for Mac (IDE) next year, it will continue to provide VS Code (rich text editor) for Mac users.
