According to Gmesradar, Microsoft seems to believe that the rumors that GTA 6 will be released in 2024 are true.
In its latest response to the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) investigation into its ongoing acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft referenced the rumored release date of GTA 6, arguing that Activision games do not represent a high enough percentage of market share for the acquisition to harm competition. As a defense, Microsoft mentioned other major games and publishers, including Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive, saying that “the highly anticipated GTA 6 is expected to be released in 2024.
While this may sound like Microsoft has confirmed the release of GTA 6, Microsoft is actually citing a previous Bloomberg report that claims “current and former Rockstar employees estimate GTA 6 is at least two years away from release and is expected to be released in 2024.
It’s entirely possible that Microsoft has knowledge of Rockstar’s GTA 6 plans, but it’s also possible that the report is purely a reference to public reports and rumors.
Neither Rockstar nor its parent company, Take-Two, have confirmed a release date for GTA 6, or even a target year. However, the fact that Microsoft revealed its release date in an official report is noteworthy in itself, as Microsoft is doing everything it can to make the acquisition a success.
Rockstar previously said that the massive leak of GTA 6 in September was “very disappointing,” but assured fans that it would not affect the game’s development.
