First released in October 2022, Microsoft Designer is a new design tool powered by generative AI capabilities, including OpenAI’s DALL.E 2. Today Microsoft revealed that Microsoft Designer is now available to anyone in full public preview.
If you want to quickly produce some professional-quality design works, such as social media posts, invitations, digital postcards, etc., you may think of using professional design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. However, the learning costs and difficulty of using this software can be prohibitive.
Designer, on the other hand, is a web-based application that does not need to install any software, as long as there is a browser and a network, it can be used. It is characterized by the use of artificial intelligence technology, which can generate various pictures according to the user’s text description, and provides a variety of templates and styles for users to choose and customize.
One of the core functions of Designer is that it is equipped with the AI drawing tool DALL-E 2 developed by OpenAI, which can create stunning images according to any text instructions entered by the user. For example, if you type in “girl in a Christmas costume”, the DALL-E 2 can generate three images in a few seconds in different styles, and you can choose one or more of them for your design project. This way, you don’t need to worry about finding the right picture material anymore.
Designer also provides a convenient feature that can be used directly in the sidebar of the Microsoft Edge browser. In this way, when you suddenly have inspiration while browsing the web and want to make a design work, you don’t need to leave the current page, and you don’t need to download any extensions. Just click the Designer icon on the sidebar and you can start creating immediately.
Microsoft said that Designer was developed to help users unleash their creativity. Whether it is a professional designer or an ordinary user, they can use it to realize their own ideas and produce high-quality, unique and beautiful content. Microsoft also stated that Designer is still being improved, and more functions and integration methods will be added in the future to allow users to enjoy a smoother and more enjoyable design experience. An upcoming addition will include another way to quickly replace the background in an image while expanding the background art to fill the entire image. The designer will also let users fill graphics with new content, and even erase content from images.
