In order to promote the Blizzard acquisition case, Microsoft recently told the UK Competition and Markets Authority that Sony PlayStation exclusive games are better than Xbox exclusive games in terms of quantity and quality.
Microsoft cited Metacritic data showing that the average score for the first 20 exclusive games on PlayStation in 2021 was 87/100, while the average score for Xbox exclusives in the same period was 80/100.
In addition to higher scores for PS exclusives, Microsoft also points out that PlayStation exclusive game sales account for 10-20 percent of all PlayStation games, while Xbox exclusives account for only 0-10 percent.
Microsoft stressed in a PDF document submitted to the UK Competition and Markets Authority that it would not pull Activision titles from PlayStation outside of the completion of the acquisition. It’s just that no matter how emphatic Microsoft is on the issue, the regulator threw in its concerns.
Activision Blizzard has a very strong presence in the gaming community with popular classics such as Watchmen, Diablo, Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Candy Crush and StarCraft. While the UK has decided to review Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, several countries, including Brazil and Saudi Arabia, have allowed the deal to go ahead.
