Meta’s latest Quest 3 headset has a more powerful processor and a higher-resolution display. However, this also led to a decrease in battery life, which many users were dissatisfied with.
In order to solve this problem, Meta Company launched the first update for Quest 3 after the headset was released – the Quest v59 update, which adds a power-saving mode that can extend the use time by reducing graphics quality. This function can be found in the settings menu Found in the “Power” option.
While power saving mode will certainly improve the headset’s battery life, it also sacrifices graphics quality, which is one of the major upgrades to the Quest 3 over its predecessor. Meta doesn’t specify how it reduces graphics quality, whether it’s a lower refresh rate, longer loading times or something else.
In addition to battery saver mode, Meta Quest 3’s v59 update also brings a number of other new features and fixes, including:
- Supports opening YouTube live chat in the headset, allowing users to see and respond to comments during the live broadcast without taking off the headset. This feature is currently in the early access stage and requires an application from Meta Company to use it.
- Added a shortcut that allows users to jump to the bug report form when they encounter an in-game issue by pressing the Meta/Oculus button on their right controller five times.
- You can use emoticons or avatar stickers to reply to your friends’ messages instead of using text every time.
- An activity tab has been added to the character panel, making it easier to see what games friends are playing and join group chats. There are also recommended apps and games that users can play with friends.
- For new Meta Quest 3 owners, there’s a “Suggest Borders” feature that automatically suggests an editable game border based on the surrounding environment, without having to draw it from scratch each time.
- For mixed reality games, there is an “Assisted Space Setup” feature that quickly scans the surrounding environment when a mixed reality app is opened and creates a simple model of the room’s surfaces, including walls, tables, and other furniture, without having to manually place them Add to space.
- Improved hand display in Meta Quest 3 perspective mode, making users more comfortable when operating panels and applications in mixed reality.
Meta also promised to gradually push the Remote Display application (originally a unique feature of Quest Pro) to Meta Quest 3 and 2, allowing users to view their computer desktop in the headset. Additionally, avatars in Horizon Home will have legs for the first time. There’s also a Family Center feature in the Meta app that lets parents set daily usage limits and breaks for their kids or teens.
Meta has continued to improve Quest 2 with updates since its release, and the same will be done with Quest 3.
