Luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz is planning to launch a long-awaited electric model. The automaker has now released a preview image of a new entry-level electric model (with dimensions close to CLA size).
According to Autocar, the new entry-level EV concept will have similar dimensions to the CLA and similar design elements to the Mercedes EQXX concept, with a range of up to 747 miles (currently about 1202.18 kilometres).
Foreign media believe that this entry-level concept car is based on Mercedes-Benz’s new MMA platform, and is likely to use lithium iron phosphate battery packs derived from BYD.
This September, Mercedes-Benz will present the concept design of this new entry-level electric model at IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich, Germany, and we’ll bring you a more detailed report then.
As a company striving to make the electrification transition, Mercedes-Benz will show off its next-generation electric model later this year.
Currently, the company has five all-electric models, including the EQS sedan, EQS SUV, EQB, EQE sedan and EQE SUV.
“There are a lot of electric cars in the works,” Mercedes dealer council chairman Josef Agstra previously said, “and electric cars are definitely in our future.”
According to Automotive News, Mercedes’ upcoming lineup of new vehicles includes an electric CLA sedan with an expected range of 400 miles (about 643.74 kilometres), designed for younger buyers.
Mercedes also plans to introduce an electric GLC successor to its first mass-market electric car, the EQC.
Mercedes says the highlight of this year’s IAA Mobility 2023 will be its entry-level market and will showcase a number of new concepts.
According to Autocar, the next-generation CLA models are expected to go on sale in 2025, using in-house developed electric and mild-hybrid gasoline drivetrains.
Combined with previous news, the new MMA platform focuses on small, medium and compact cars, and will support a variety of fuel, hybrid and electric powertrains. Of particular note, the MMA platform also supports a number of technologies such as an 800V supercharger system, permanent magnet synchronous motors, and SiC power electronics.
According to reports, the production version of the concept car will be unveiled in 2024, and its pure electric powertrain, available in single-motor front-drive and dual-motor four-wheel-drive, will provide at least 200 hp (149 kW) of power, with a range of 450-550 kilometres under WLTP conditions.

This new car will be on display in Munich alongside the EQXX and Vision One-Eleven to introduce the technologies Mercedes will use in future electric vehicles.
Mercedes expects to release three more “entry-level” EV models over the next three years as part of its new compact car lineup. The automaker said the new models, to be presented in September, will represent its “vision of class-leading innovation, design and digital experience.”
