Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz will build a global charging network covering North America, China, Europe and other major markets to support its goal of full electrification in markets where conditions permit by 2030, according to foreign media reports.
Mercedes-Benz announced that it will begin construction with charging stations in North America. The company said it will have 400 high-powered charging stations containing 2,500 chargers in the U.S. by 2027, most of which will be located near major roadways and retail centers in urban centers and major cities.
While the charging network does not yet have a name, it will be the first visible result of a partnership between Mercedes-Benz, energy producer MN8 energy and ChargePoint, an electric vehicle charging network company. The charging network will be open to all-electric vehicles in order to encourage the rapid adoption of electric vehicles.
Until now, Mercedes-Benz has relied primarily on third-party charging networks. Therefore, building an entirely new charging network is a bold move by the company.
With an electric vehicle charging infrastructure, the company will not only gain a new source of revenue in the emerging electric vehicle charging market but also provide the best charging experience for its car customers, according to foreign media.
Mercedes-Benz is currently accelerating its “electric first” strategy, and in July 2021, the company said it would go fully electric by 2030 in markets where conditions allow. The company has announced measures to accelerate its transition to all-electric vehicles, including plans to build a battery factory. (Little Fox)
