Mercedes-Benz’s first global dealership for the all-electric Mercedes-EQ brand opened Tuesday in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, Japan, Reuters reported.
Mercedes-Benz officials said in a statement that the company has launched five electric models since 2019 and “sees further growth in the Japanese electric vehicle market.
According to the Japan Automobile Importers Association (JAIA), the foreign brand sold a record 2,357 electric cars in November, exceeding for the first time one-tenth of total imported car sales. the JAIA data also showed that among all models, Mercedes-Benz sold 51,722 cars in Japan last year, making it the best-selling foreign car brand.
Mercedes-Benz sold 520,100 vehicles worldwide in the third quarter of 2022, up 20 percent from a year ago, which also included 517,800 Mercedes-Benz passenger cars (up 21 percent) and a handful of vans.
Most notably, Mercedes-Benz’s electric vehicle sales more than doubled in Q3, reaching 30,000 units in a single quarter. In September in particular, a record 13,100 pure electric vehicles were sold in the month, including 3,400 Mercedes-Benz EQBs.
