Mercedes-Benz today announced the US price of the upcoming eSprinter electric van and began accepting orders.
Mercedes-Benz will launch the eSprinter truck version in the United States with a 170-inch long wheelbase, high-roof configuration, and 113kWh battery. The WLTP cruising range can reach 400 kilometers. The starting price is US$71,886. It is currently about 524,000 RMB. At the top end of the emerging electric van market, other competitors include Ford’s E-Transit and Volkswagen’s ID Buzz.
The car is currently built at Mercedes-Benz plants in Charleston, South Carolina, and Ludwigsfeld and Dusseldorf, Germany, and the company has said it will only sell electric cars after 2030.
Like electric vans like the Ford E-Transit and BrightDrop Zevo, the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter is designed for delivery or other commercial use. But unlike these vans, the eSprinter can also be used for non-commercial purposes.
For eSprinter, battery life is a big advantage. As well as boasting class-leading range figures, Mercedes-Benz also showcases the vehicle’s efficiency through its drive and kinetic energy recovery modes – there are three for the former and five for the latter. Mercedes-Benz said:
A particular advantage of the car is the automatic function (D Auto), in which the vehicle automatically determines the energy recovery rate according to the traffic situation. Radar sensors automatically adjust recovery intensity to ensure optimal recovery. ECO Assist on the dashboard shows the driver when the pedal should be lifted, and the vehicle can then automatically select the appropriate recovery intensity. Three driver programs (eco, comfort and max range) further assist the driver in driving in a more efficient or comfortable manner.
In fact, Mercedes takes the efficiency of electric vehicles very seriously. The company’s Vision EQXX is billed as the most efficient electric car ever, capable of traveling 1,000 kilometers on a single charge. On a recent record-setting drive, the car averaged 8.7kWh per 100km (7.1kWh per 62 miles).
