The EQE SUV can be understood as the SUV version of the EQE sedan already on the market. The overall appearance is very similar, but it is pulled higher. Interestingly, the EQE SUV has a smaller body and wheelbase than the EQE sedan. The body length, width and height of the declared Beijing Benz EQE SUV are 4880/2032/1679mm, and the wheelbase is 3030mm.
The mainline EQE SUV will offer a choice of three electrified powertrains when it goes on sale, starting with the EQE350 Plus with its single 215kW electric motor mounted on the rear axle. That gives the EQE350 Plus 288 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque, and a 0-60 mph time of just 6.3 seconds. The EQE350 4Matic adds a second electric motor on the front axle for fully variable all-wheel drive but keeps its total output at 288 horsepower. However, torque climbs to 564 lb-ft, and with the extra pulling power, 0-60 mph sprint drops to 6.2 seconds. Lastly, there’s the EQE500 4Matic, which ups the power of its two electric motors, boosting output to 536 horsepower and 633 pound-feet of torque. It has a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds, but is electronically limited to 130 mph like the others.
All three models are equipped with the same 90.6 kWh battery, the same as the EQE sedan. The battery can be charged from 10% to 100% in 9.5 hours using a 7.7 kW AC charger. With support for 170kW DC fast charging, the aforementioned charging time will be reduced to 32 minutes. Mercedes estimates the EQE SUV will have a range of 342 miles under European WLTP conditions.
The electric SUV rides on 19-inch wheels, while the EQE500 comes standard with 20-inch wheels, and Airmatic air suspension will be available as an option, increasing the speed at the push of a button at speeds below 43 mph. 1 inch (25.4 mm) of ground clearance. The air suspension also lowers the car by 0.8 inches to reduce drag in Sport mode or at speeds above 75 mph. Rear-wheel steering is also standard on the EQE500 (optional on the EQE350).
Aside from more headroom, the EQE SUV’s interior is largely the same as the sedan’s, with standard equipment including the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system with a 12.8-inch vertical center console and 12.3-inch digital gauges plate. Mercedes’ massive 56-inch Hyperscreen is optional, combining three displays onto a single curved glass panel. Additionally, MBUX supports the “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant, offers fingerprint authentication for up to seven separate user profiles, and supports standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wireless connectivity.
The EQE SUV also supports the full range of Mercedes’ suite of driver assistance technologies, including standard pre-collision alert with brake assist, lane keep assist and blind-spot monitoring. The optional Driver Assist package adds lane-change steering assist, enhanced adaptive cruise control, and more.
Also released at the same time is its AMG version – AMG EQE SUV, which reflects its identity as a performance version through many detailed adjustments. This includes Panamerican grille, Affalterbach LOGO, exclusive wheels, carbon fiber interior panels, AMG steering wheel, etc. The UI of the car also provides a more combative style.
The AMG EQE SUV’s dual-motor all-wheel-drive system produces 617 horsepower and 701 pound-feet of torque, increasing its top speed to 137 mph. The optional AMG Dynamic Plus package increases output to 677 hp and 738 lb-ft through its Boost function, top speed also climbs to 149 mph, while 0-60 mph acceleration is reduced to 3.4 seconds.
The AMG EQE SUV uses the same 90.6-kilowatt-hour battery as the rest of the EQE SUV family, and the same AC and DC charging speeds, with a WLTP range of between 233 and 292 miles (approximately 469.93 kilometers).
