Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently released a new issue of the Power On newsletter. In addition to talking about Apple’s internal high expectations for iOS 18, he also predicted the M3 Ultra chip.
Part of Mark Gurman’s newsletter as follows:
Taking the M2 series as a reference:
The M2 Pro comes with up to 12 CPU cores and 19 GPU cores;
The M2 Max comes with up to 12 CPU cores and 38 GPU cores;
The M2 Ultra comes with up to 24 CPU cores and 76 GPU cores;
However, Apple no longer has such an upgrade method in the M3 series of chips. The number of GPU cores in the M3 Max has not doubled compared to the M3 Pro.
Apple has yet to announce the M3 Ultra chip, but if Apple continues to increase the chip's CPU and GPU core count, I'd predict a maximum of 32 CPU cores and 80 GPU cores.
Apple is expected to increase the unified memory limit, and it is expected to support 256GB.
Mark Gurman said Apple will reveal details of the M3 Ultra chip in the coming months and will release it in 2024.
